A Portuguese biographer and historian; born at Oporto, Feb. 10, 1849; professor of German language and literature in the Lyceum there. His principal works are: "The Musicians of Portugal" (1870); "Reform in the Teaching of the Fine Arts" (3 vols., 1877-79); "Albert Durer and his Influence in the Peninsula" (1877); "Francis the Hollander" (1879); "Goesiana", 4 vols. 1877-81.
