A very delicate glass hydrometer, for testing the purity of olive or almond oil, by determining their densities. The 0 or zero of the scale is the point at which the instrument floats in the oil of poppy seeds. In pure olive oil, it floats at 50 degrees, and the space between these points is divided into 50 equal parts, and numbered accordingly. It floats at 38 degrees or 38 and a half degrees in pure oil of almonds.
