-
A vegetable alkali, discovered by M. Boullay in the Menispermum Cocculus. It crystallizes in quadrangular, white, brilliant, semitransparent prisms; which are excessively bitter, soluble in three parts of alcohol, and in fifteen of boiling water. The Cocculus Indicus owes its poisonous properties to this principle.
