Is one of the largest branches of the hypogastric. It makes its exit from the pelvis at the upper part of the superior sciatic foramen; gains the posterior part of the pelvis, and divides into two branches; - the one superficial, the other deep-seated,. The last subdivides into three secondary branches, whose ramifications are distributed particularly to the Glutaei, Longissimus Dorsi, Sacrolumbalis, &c., and anastomose with the sciatic and internal circumflex arteries.
