A distinguished Swiss dialect poet and story-writer; born at Modena, Italy, July 13, 1830; died at Samaden, Switzerland, Nov. 25, 1891. He cultivated the old Rhaetian tongue, which still survives among some of the Tyrolese and elsewhere; producing much sprightly verse, the collections "Alpine Flowers" (1883) and "Smiles and Tears" (1887) containing fine specimens. His comedy of "The Apothecary" (1864) has been successful.
