(1823-1875), was born in Connecticut. He was Judge of Probate in 1849, a member of the Connecticut Legislature from 1855 to 1857, and a U. S. Representative from 1859 to 1861. He served during the Civil War, being promoted to brigadier-general in 1862. He was a U. S. Senator from 1867 to 1875.
