An American philosophical writer; born at Leonardvilie, N. J., Jan. 14, 1847. He was religious editor of the New York Independent 1875-76, becoming professor of philosophy at Boston University 1876. He has written: "Philosophy of Herbert Spencer" (1874); "Metaphysics" (1882); "The Immanence of God"; "Personalism".
