An influential French historical and philosophical writer, dramatist, and publicist; born in Rodez, Dec. 10, 1842 (or 1843). A drama, "Joan of Arc" (1890), has made his name most widely known; his other work being largely represented by such books as "A Course in Philosophy" (1870) and "Washington, the Liberator of America" (1882).

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
