A Syrian philosopher; born at Chalcis, Coele-Syria; died about 330 A. D. He was the author of numerous philosophical works written from the Neo-Platonic point of view, among them an "Exhortation to Philosophy". He also wrote a "Life of Pythagoras".

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
