(1821-1877), born in Tennessee, enlisted in the Confederate service, and commanded a regiment of cavalry at Fort Donelson. He took part in the battle of Shiloh, and made a successful attack upon Murfreesboro. He served at Chickamauga in 1863, captured Fort Pillow in 1864, and surrendered to General Wilson, at Gainesville, in 1865.
