A Russian author; born in St. Petersburg, Aug. 24, 1817; died near there, Sept. 28, 1875. He wrote a number of ballads and lyric poems; one novel, "Kniaz (Prince) Serbrianyi" (translated by Jeremiah Curtin, 1893); a short drama, "Don Juan"; and a trilogy, "The Death of Ivan the Terrible" (1865), "Tsar Feodor Ivanovich" (1868), and "Tsar Boris" (1870).
