Oats are used as food for man in some parts, particularly in the North of England and Scotland. When deprived of the husks, they form Groats. Reduced to meal- they are applied as cataplasms to promote suppuration. The dry meal is sprinkled over erysipelatous parts. It is a good demulcent, and is used also as a vehicle for clysters.
